Modern Health Tips

Technology has advanced in a lot of big ways in the last 50 years, but also in little, helpful ways. Trying to stay active is not necessarily a problem for most of us. In fact, the vast majority of people you would talk to would complain that they just don’t have enough time in their day to get everything done. However, staying active and keeping your body in good, working condition is not really as synonymous as people like to believe. But don’t worry, we have some excellent modern tips to get good ol’ fashioned health!

Trying to get healthy in our modern world is sometimes very tricky, but other times absurdly convenient. A lot of people talk about getting back to nature and returning to their roots. However, this is not always a plausible solution for people. Many of us need to maintain an income to support ourselves that cannot be accomplished by living remotely and off the grid as many like to say. It’s probably true that distancing oneself can sometimes have a very positive effect on one’s health and wellbeing, but sometimes that just can’t happen.

Now, for those of us who are less fortunate in our ability to get away from the big city or a busy lifestyle – whether because we choose it or because there are reasons that prevent it – there is plenty we can do to give ourselves a boost! So, how do you best utilize all the technology that is floating about your fingertips? Well, you’re in luck… We have some suggestions for you!

Suggestion 1 – Netflix

Netflix may seem like an odd first suggestion, and maybe it is. However, education is our primary consideration here. Most of you probably are well aware that Netflix is a smart, convenient, and relatively inexpensive way to access a lot of different videos either online or by having them delivered to your home! Well, we have found that there are several informational and educational videos about food, health, and wellness available as well as a wide variety of exercise videos ranging from martial arts to yoga. With good material like The Gerson Miracle and Food Matters ready for watch-now viewing, signing up for even online streaming only is definitely something to think about.

We think that both the The Gerson Miracle and Food Matters videos have some really great information in them. Of course, it seems like nobody agrees on everything 100%, so we aren’t suggesting to accept the contents of these videos uncontested. Rather, don’t take our word for it! Check them out for yourselves! Even if you can’t get Netflix, maybe you have a close friend or family member who can hook you up or let you choose one of the DVDs for yourself. Learning what’s out there and figuring out what will work for you are essential to making your life a happier place for you to live. Don’t let little stumbling blocks become insurmountable hurdles!

Suggestion 2 – Smart Phone Apps

Phones are getting smarter and smarter all the time. Maybe that’s why they’ve gotten the name smart phone… They are advancing left and right with new applications being created for this thing and that other thing all the time. Now, we admit that a lot of the applications out there – whether for the iPhone, Android, or Windows system, whatever – can be pretty much frivolous and sometimes just downright pointless (like the drinking beer glass). However, not all of the smart phone applications can be lumped into such a category. There are some out there that can be very useful – not just for navigating you through an unfamiliar part of town or giving you a fun game to play at the airport, but for helping keep tabs on your health and streamline your activities as well.

Some applications are purchasable while others are free. Yes, that’s right free!! You just need room on your mobile device to store it. What kind of applications could possibly be on there? Well, just to name a few, there are calorie counting apps, work out apps, heart rate apps, step tracking apps, and pregnancy information and tracking apps. Ever heard the phrase, “if you can imagine it, we can find it?” In the world of smart phone applications, that is almost true! Don’t believe us? Mosey on over to your phone’s app market place and check for yourself! Of course, if you don’t have a smart phone right now, don’t sweat it… There are some similar types of little programs you can get for your PC.

Suggestion 3 – Game Consoles

The game industry is pretty perceptive and savvy sometimes. Just as much as any other industry, they are very aware what parents and kids want. A few years ago, the game console fondly called the Nintendo Wii emerged onto shelves with a new requirement. It demanded body language. Taking a sharp turn away from standard gaming controls, the Nintendo Wii requested players use a little wand they call a Wii remote. With this, theoretically more physical activity was required from the player (unless they figured out how to do almost everything with a flick of their wrist), and to ensure kids had a good, solid excuse to get their parents involved, they produced the Wii Fit – a sensitive little pad that isn’t afraid to tell you what you weigh . Among its array of abilities, the Wii Fit program allows a user to check his or her daily progress, set goals, and even enter time spent exercising outside of using the Wii Fit. With over 40 activities and a couple different extension and bundle options, the Wii Fit is a very modern way to try and work on your health.

For a few years, the Wii went uncontended. However, as is the way of things, just as the Apple iPhone no longer stands a head and shoulder above everyone else, neither does the Nintendo Wii. Sony PlayStation came out with a very similar design concept called the PlayStation Move. It also uses a remote controller, but has a color changing sphere on the end to differentiate itself. Naturally eager to compete, Microsoft Xbox finally produced an Xbox 360 extension called a Kinect. With this new development, the user goes from a wireless controller to becoming the controller him or herself! A camera setup allows the console to read the players’ actions and coordinate their movements with the avatars representing them in the game they are participating in. Some of the adventures games alone (which comes with the Kinect to get you started and interested if you weren’t already) can give a person that warm, tongue tingling feeling one gets when they are nearly sweating and in need of a drink of water. Imagine what might happen with the ones that try to burn your calories!

With three systems to choose from, and undoubtedly more (or at least advancements) on the way, there are a lot of different ways a person can find a way to get involved in this modern, technological era. A person no longer has to sit in front of the television to hang out with their friends and family. Apparently you can do karate, go golfing, or play tennis – just to name a few! And, when it comes to your phone, don’t let it be just an accessory – turn that bill every month into a helpful tool. As for educating yourself, there is a lot of reading in stores and online available as well as different videos to watch – whether via Netflix online or buying them to add to your personal library, so you have some options! Take full advantage of what we have at our disposable at this time in our lives and find your best health in this modern age.
